Presenters


Carol Baxter (NSW) — an experienced and informed historian and genealogist, an internationally-acclaimed, award-winning author and a dynamic, inspirational presenter. Carol’s was Project Officer of the Australian Biographical and Genealogical Record (ABGR) and later General Editor of the ABGR’s the Biographical Database of Australia. She is a Fellow of the Society of Australian Genealogists, an adjunct lecturer at the University of New England, and is now a full-time writer and speaker. 
 Carol began writing ‘popular history’ in 2004 and is the author of four ‘true-crime thrillers’ as well as books on convict research and NSW research. She has two guide books published by Unlock the Past.

Eric Kopittke (Qld) — Eric has been researching his German families from Pommern, Schleswig-Holstein, Westfalen and Westpreussen since 1985. He regularly speaks at family history societies and at other events.He has a blog site www.erickopittke.blogspot.com.au, has produced two books on German research, published through Unlock the Past, as well as a number of cemetery transcriptions and the Emigrants from Hamburg to Australasia 1850-1879 publication in collaboration with wife Rosemary. Eric has received the Queensland FHS Award for Services to Family History (1990); was made a Fellow of the Queensland FHS and in 2006 was awarded the AFFHO Award for Meritorious Services to Family History.

Rosemary Kopittke (Qld) — Rosemary has a Certificate in Genealogical Studies (English Records) with the National Institute for Genealogical Studies. She is a consultant for Gould Genealogy & History. She regularly presents at events in Australia and New Zealand and has presented on all the Unlock the Past cruises.
 She has published numerous indexes to cemeteries and government records, Emigrants from Hamburg to Australasia 1850-1879. She is editor of Unlock the Past publications and author and contributor to several.
 Rosemary is a Fellow of the Queensland Family History Society and in 2006 received the AFFHO Award for Meritorious Services to Family History.

Helen Smith (Qld) — Helen is has written 2 books published with Unlock that Past as well as for ‘Inside History’, ‘Australian Family Tree Connections’, family history journals and scientific publications.
 She has spoken to a wide variety of audiences nationally at the Australasian Congress and many family history society meetings and internationally including Who Do You Think You Are? Live! England, RootsTech, USA, Harvest Your Family Tree, Canada, and the NZ Family History Fair. She has also been a speaker on many of the Unlock the Past Genealogy and History cruises and roadshows. She is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and the Genealogical Speakers Guild.
