Peter Procter:  Revisiting a few assumptions:  unlikely stories and astonishing surprises about Captain John Grono (1767-1847).

At the monthly meeting of The Heraldry & Genealogy Society of Canberra (HAGSOC) on Tuesday 3 September 2013 at 8pm at the Neighbourhood Hall, Cook Community Hub, 41 Templeton Street Cook ACT 2614 (6251 7004) our guest speaker will be Peter Procter.  Peter’s topic will be:  Revisiting a few assumptions:  unlikely stories and astonishing surprises about Captain John Grono (1767-1847).

Peter will be examining what is known about Captain John Grono (1767-1847), a sailor, settler, sealer, ship-builder, and long-forgotten Hawkesbury celebrity.

Peter has been the Society’s Honorary Research Officer for more than twenty years.  Peter’s family were immigrants from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.  Besides a bit of volunteering, he works on the local history of nineteenth century Queanbeyan and Tuggeranong.

There is no charge for attending the monthly meeting  and visitors are welcome.
