Join Carolyn Spooner for readings from diaries kept by nine South Australians on the battlefields of World War One. In graphic detail, they reveal the humour and indomitable spirit of the Anzacs in the face of life in the Gallipoli trenches and the fields of the Western Front. Hear from flying ace Ross Smith; nurse Irene Bonnin; and Captain James Churchill-Smith; engineer Louis Willyama Avery; Leo Terrell; Malcolm Bonnar and Private Arthur Oxer. His last diary entry on 20 May 1915 ‘Things are fairly quiet’ is deeply poignant because he lost his life at Gallipoli the next day.
