Coinciding with the Auckland Festival of Photography, this exhibition is a celebration of the photography of New Zealanders Bert and Fred Tornquist and Bert's associations with the Auckland art-workers' collective, the Quoin Club.

Thanks to the Library's subscription to Ancestry, Keith Giles (Photograph Librarian), discovered that contrary to the established belief that neither Fred nor Bert had any formal photographic training, Fred had studied photography at Bissell College of Photo Engraving in Effingham, Illinois during the northern winter of 1918/19. Bert attended the Chicago Art Institute and, again courtesy of Ancestry, can be found on the 1920 US Census living at the YMCA Hotel in Chicago.

Exhibition may be viewed 9am till 8pm weekdays and 10am till 4pm on Saturdays.
