Demobilising the NZEF after the Armistice with Michael Wynd - Family History Lunchtime Series
The coming of the Armistice in November 1918 found the formations of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force (NZEF) in reserve getting ready to resume combat operations. Combat ended on 11 November but New Zealand's commitment to the Allied cause was not completed. This process of demobilisation took nearly two years to complete before the last New Zealander returned home. This presentation will highlight the process of demobilisation for the NZ Division on the Western Front and the NZ Mounted Rifle Brigade in Palestine. It was a time of frustration, boredom, violence, excitement and relief, which remains an unknown part of our military heritage.
