CALOUNDRA FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH INC IS HOSTING AN OPEN DAY AT THEIR LIBRARY & RESOURCE CENTRE FOR NATIONAL FAMILY HISTORY MONTH & SUNSHINE COAST SENIORS WEEK

Members of the public are welcome to attend the resource centre/library where there will be Caloundra Family History members on hand to show the way to research through the facilities and resources owned by the group.   Co-ordinators from the monthly Interest Groups will be on hand to explain how these ‘self help’ groups meet to concentrate on finding results from records in other countries, such as Germany, Scotland, England & Wales, and Ireland.  Members will assist visitors in both the group’s computer room and library which has over 2000 books as well as 650 maps and 1000’s of microfiche indexes.

This will provide visitors with the opportunity to not only learn about our resources and how we can assist them in learning how to research, but it will also give them the opportunity to talk one-on-one with a more experienced researcher.  This will help them learn what can be done and plan a course of action.  They can also see what resources we have on our computers with hundreds of indexed databases and subscription sites.  Having one-on-one help available, they will have time to undertake some of their own research.

A celebratory cake to mark the special event will be served for morning tea and a light lunch will be served at lunchtime.  Our rooms are not close to cafes and having lunch available will enable those interested to stay on for a longer period.
