- Our Library is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9.30am to 2.00pm. We hold monthly meeting with Guest Speakers on the first Saturday of the month Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct and Dec and on the first Thursday of the month Mar, May, Jul, Sep and Nov.
The original Society was formed in June 2001 out at Beaudesert, Queensland and then moved to Logan Village. Due to lack of membership it was going to close down at their AGM in October 2005 but a recently formed group in Beenleigh joined the Society just before the AGM to boost their numbers from 4 to 14 and in January 2005 we moved the Society into Old Beenleigh Town. Since then we have been steadily growing in numbers and now have a membership of 60.
We produced our first book, "They Chose Beenleigh" last year to celebrate Queensland's 150th Birthday. The book gives a short history of the Beenleigh area and also gives a little story on each of the early pioneer families of Beenleigh and Eagleby (formerly known as Philadelphia") from 1864 to 1885.
We have also produced a CD which covers the names of the men on the Beenleigh Memorial and has extra names from the Beenleigh District including those from the Beenleigh State School who served in WWI and those whose names can be found on the Pimpama, Queensland Memorial.
We are now working on a local Cemetery CD and working with the Logan City Council Local Studies Library doing Oral Histories.
Our Library and holds about 1000 books, 400 CDs, 1200 microfiche, over 2000 journals and magazines, Family Histories and local newspapers.
