Avonmore Books is a specialised military history publisher and distributor based in Adelaide, South Australia. Our core interests are WWII in the South West Pacific Area, as well as various aspects of aviation and naval history.
Avonmore Books is proud to release its first title, Zero Hour in Broome. This analyses the Australian northwest during the critical early 1942 period, climaxing in the devastating raid on Broome on 3rd March. This was, in fact, the second most deadly enemy air raid on Australia after the attack on Darwin just days beforehand.
The senior co-author of the book, Dr Tom Lewis, OAM, is a serving naval officer based in Darwin and also the Director of the Darwin Military Museum. Some of Dr Lewis' other titles regarding Darwin in WWII are available via the website, as are a small selection of related specialised books from other small publishers.
Zero Hour in Broome has been the subject of much interest since release in September 2010, including features in The Weekend Australian Magazine and ABC Radio National. Avonmore Books has three more titles under preparation from a variety of authors due for release in coming months. Check the website regularly for details, as well as some interesting discussion material.
