Cruise poll results

Here are the results of our 6th Unlock the Past poll. 214 people voted. 35 said they had been on a cruise before and 28 sent comments.  With over 205 indications of strong interest (definite, probably and partner)  it would seem that a block booking for 300 could be filled. Inevitably some may not be able to come at the time selected, but perhaps some of the 67 “maybes” could be persuaded. And of course we have only given very limited notice to date.

Discover Your Military Ancestors Online

Military History is a rich part of Australia’s history. Most families would have at least one military ancestor. Shauna Hicks has produced a presentation on Discover Your Military Ancestors Online to help you discovering and fill out the details of your ancestor’s life.

Our icon or logo poll results

Here are the results of our fourth Unlock the Past poll. 119 people voted and another 15 sent comments. This poll was more for our own interest in planning an updated logo and “corporate image”.

QUESTION: Help! What do you think of the coloured graphic we currently use? [the "O" in our Unlock the Past title at the top of the page]

World Vital Records – how to get better search results

World Vital Records Australasia has about 50 million names for Australia and New Zealand in a variety of databases. These include directories, government and police gazettes, some electoral rolls, death records, war records, regional and general histories and more. Some of these, especially for Queensland, are in structured databases. However 90% of the current Australasian content is scanned images of books and periodicals.

World Vital Records – subscriptions

This is the first of our blogs on World Vital Records Australasia. These will include announcements of major content additions and site developments as well as tips and advice to get the most out of the site. World Vital Records Australasia is now up for subscription and access to 50 million records for Australasia and over 1 billion world wide. However a little more fine tuning is being done before it is widely announced, hopefully in a few days.

First up an introduction to subscriptions. Three levels are offered:
